Every unit of energy in the certified biofuels market needs to be supported by compliance and proof of origin. In reality, that evidence was spread across certificates, spreadsheets, emails and transport notes that rarely aligned properly during audits.
This fragmented paperwork delayed audits, made it difficult for operators to demonstrate a clear chain of custody, and left some certified volumes essentially invisible, even when demand existed. The pace at which sustainable biofuels could scale was slowed because trust depended on manual document checks instead of a reliable, system-wide view of provenance.
For Diverfuel, this was more than an operational headache. It limited the company's ability to scale a trusted marketplace, slowed onboarding of legitimate participants, and made it difficult to demonstrate to regulators and partners that certified volumes could move quickly without increasing compliance risk.
A provenance-first platform and mediation-only marketplace built for trust
To address this, Diverfuel partnered with Untile to create a user-centered web platform that digitizes provenance and chain of custody from start to finish. Lots (volumes) are modeled from source to off-take with proof linked to each stage, so the chain reads as an integrated narrative rather than a disorganised collection of files. This gives auditors and counterparties a faster, more reliable way to understand and verify provenance and helps Diverfuel prove the integrity of each certified volume.
On top of this foundation, Diverfuel operates a mediation-only marketplace where qualified participants can signal interest in buying or selling certified volumes, while prices and negotiations remain off-platform. Compliance documentation is already in place before any connection is made, and sensitive information is disclosed progressively to protect commercially sensitive data. Certification frameworks and EU directives are built into the workflows as plain-language guidance, so operators can act correctly without being compliance experts—reducing errors and enabling Diverfuel to scale with confidence in its auditability.
